All the porch furniture is inside, all of the trash cans are in the shed, two multipacks of bottled water are in the pantry as are plenty of nonperishable foodstuffs, the dog & cat food has been restocked, storm windows are closed, all electronics are as charged as they are gonna be, all other emergency gear is at the ready (though it always is, ( Read more... )

Now onto real life! (Sort of.) This July, just like last July, Magus and I went and visited his brother + family in Georgia (in fact we went for the EXACT SAME DAYS as last year). So, we had an earthquake. A 5.9 centered down in Fredricksburg, VA. Felt it all the way up here in Philly. The whole building was shaking, my monitors tapping against each other as my desk rattled, and all of us completely baffled as to what was going on at first. The kind of hot that hasn't let up in days. The kind of hot that is blanketing the majority of the US in triple-digit (or near-to) temperatures. The kind of hot that makes you wonder if the earth has spun off it's axis and we are hurtling towards the sun.
